Labor Relations 2002 Negotiation News, May 3, 2002

Georgia Power's mgt. and IBEW Local 84's negotiating committees met Wed. and Thurs. (May 1st and 2nd) to kick off the 2002 contract negotiations.

Wednesday, Mickey Brown, SR VP, welcomed everyone and conveyed that our focus for these negotiations will be on issues that will imporve Georgia Power Co.'s competitive position by establishing a working agreement that is flexible, maximizes productivity, provides development opportunities, and removes constraints for both employees and management.  He also recognized our employees as our greatest assets.

In his opening remarks, Doyle Howard, Bus. Mgr/Financial Sec of IBEW 84 acknowledged managements focus for these negotiations.  He said that the Union's interest is to share in this focus.  He mentioned the prosperity of the company and said that he wanted our employees to share in this prosperity.

The rest of the day was spent exchanging issues.  Local 84's issues are listed below this resume.

Thursday, May 2nd, the sub-committees met.  Each sub-committee spent most of the day discussing each issue and seeking understanding of each parties interests with regards to their issues.  The Generation and Compensation/Benefits committee selected and issue and reviewed their options, working toward a resolution. 

Negotiations will continue next Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at 9:00am at the corporate headquarters.

Generation Issues: Local 84

Paragraph 40 issues (shift pick frequency and additional schedules)

Include language for daylight savings time issues

Toolkeeper/Storekeeper seniority issue

Add language to paragraph 37(a) to use seniority for resheduling
